21.06.2011 – 30th anniversary of the Fête de la Musique !

The 1st “Fête de la Musique” was organised by the then French cultural minister, Jack Lang, on 21st June 1982. It is celebrated today as the “International Music Day” in more than 110 countries and 430 cities across the world. This free event that celebrates the spirit of music finds popularity among the mass as well as the music community.

This year the French Ministry of Culture has decided to honour the music of its overseas departments and territories. Thus the website dedicated to the Festival (www.fetedelamusique.culture.fr) has several musical scores created in the Reunion, Guadeloupe and French Polynesia to enable the fans to reproduce them.

The website also has an online exhibition of all the posters designed for the Festival since 1982 and has invited the public to share its fondest memories.

In Bombay, the “Alliance française de Bombay” and its partners have organized concerts this week and admission is free for all.
