24th - 26th August 2012 - The IATF West Zone Regional Congress
Summary of the IATF West Zone Regional Congress held from 24th to 26th August 2012 at FLAME University, Lavale.
The triennial Regional Congress for the West Zone of Indian Association of Teachers of French (IATF) was held on the pristine campus of the FLAME University at Lavale, on the outskirts of Pune, from 24th to 26th August, 2012 in partnership with FLAME University, the French Embassy in India, Institut Français, Goyal Publishers and Langers Publishing House.
70 teachers from Surat, Ahmedabad, Nashik, Mumbai and Pune, got together to deliberate on an innovative theme "Gastronomy : reflection of a dynamic civilization." Ms. Jaya Gadgil, National Secretary of the IATF and organizer of the conference explained the reason behind choosing this innovative theme - that of discovering and learning a foreign language through its gastronomical aspect –in literature and poetry, through its social and historical evolution, through an intercultural, pedagogical and a task-based perspective - a theme representing the French culture and civilization of yesterday and today. The word "food" conjures up the image of France and its cuisine. Why is it French and not English, German, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian ? Because the French taste, lifestyle, art of laying out the table, haute cuisine is all about French identity and French gastronomy is undoubtedly the most renowned in the world.
Also present at this Congress were Mrs. Indira Parikh, President of FLAME University, Ms. Dominique Frin, Linguistic Attaché of the Embassy of France in India, Mr. Luc Didon, Director of the Alliance Française de Pune, Ms. Anuradha Wagle, President of the IATF. Students from FLAME, University of Pune and Fergusson College have lent a helping hand to the organization of this Congress.
Mr. Dileep Padgaonkar, journalist of international repute and ex-Chief Editor of Times of India, was the Guest of Honour for this event.
The workshops and presentations conducted during this 3-day Congress helped the professors of French to pick up innovative tools to introduce gastronomy in class.
