New Delhi, 6-8 October 2016

AFD is an associate partner of TERI’s WSDS, themed ’Beyond 2015: People, Planet & Progress’, which was inaugurated on October 6th in the Vigyan Bhavan by Honourable President of India.

On the same day, AFD organized with the Think Tanks IDDRI and TERI, a Thematic Tracked titled “Lifestyles, Production and Consumption: Key Challenges for Sustainable Development”, which was introduced by Dr. Mathur, Director of TERI and Mr Cyrille Bellier, Deputy Director of Strategy, Communication and Partnerships of AFD’s Head Office.

During the track, multiple viewpoints of stakeholders have been presented, representing both developed and developing country perspectives. The various speakers, mostly Fellow Researchers, stated that the transition towards sustainable lifestyles has emerged as a critical issue in the contemporary discourse on sustainable development. In order to introduce these radical changes, a new approach of well-being is necessary. The gross domestic product (GDP), an indicator of the production of richness, should not be the only indicators of development and quality of life. These changes in consumer attitudes and behaviour must also be supported through sustained research, education, and awareness, as well as by regulation and the delivery of sustainable products and services.

During the track, the new website of the Planet For Life Series was launched. For the last seven years, the book A planet for Life, has been documenting sustainable development as a process, as an approach, a philosophy, renewing the relationship between economic, social and environmental issues, as a subject for research and expertise and as a political choice. AFD and IDDRI, who have initiated and are conjointly moderating of the collection, have decided to put on line all the contributions – dossiers, interviews, references, maps, graphics and data from A Planet for Life – and to make them accessible free of charge to all.
