Almost 500 students from 10 schools in Kolkata gathered at the heritage Basusree Cinema Hall to watch a French animated film called “The Painting” (in French “Le Tableau”), directed by Jean-François Laguionie, a famous master animator.

Held on the 1st October 2016 with the assistance and support of the French Institute in India and the Alliance Française du Bengale, this was one of the biggest gatherings of school students keen on watching French Cinema in this city. Mr. Damien Syed, Consul General of France in Calcutta, was present at the event to welcome to the children.

The film is a poetic and colorful story that includes homages to renowned painters such as Marc Chagall, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and other artists.

Previously, the French teachers had participated in the workshop “Learn French though Film”, conducted by linguistic attachée Magosha Fréquelin at the Alliance française du Bengale in order to help them through new teaching methods and ease them into French language courses.
