Celebration of the Beaujolais wine 2016 in Calcutta
A reception was held on Thursday 17 November 2016 at the Consulate General of France to celebrate this year’s vintage of Beaujolais wine. It was the first time such a celebration was organized in Calcutta.
120 guests attended this event: members of the French community, Indian teachers of French, Indian students having studied in France, as well as journalists. The guests could enjoy French food and cheeses to accompany this wine specially imported from France for the occasion.
In his speech, the Consul General Damien Syed mentioned that the “Beaujolais Nouveau” (“New Beaujolais”) is from vineyards in the north of the city of Lyon. This red wine is so named because it is sold only a few weeks after the grapes were harvested. Every year it is opened on the third Thursday of November. Wine tasting is part of French culture and way of life. According to all the reception’s participants, this year’s
vintage turned out to be light and fruity.
In the same evening, the Consul General presented “France Alumni.fr”, a new digital platform to connect, inform and guide Indians who have studied in French higher education institutes. The Indian chapter has been inaugurated by the Ambassador of France on 28 September 2016.
Mr. Syed also encouraged the teachers to discover for themselves and their students “Immersion France”, an application for mobiles and tablets about linguistic tourism in France.
