DELF and DALF September 2013 session
The DELF and the DALF are official diplomas of general French language from the French Ministry of Education. These exams are OPEN TO ALL. They give proof of efficiency in French and are internationally recognized. One can use them as verification of their efficiency in French on résumés for Indian or International companies and organizations and are valid for life. They are also recognized by French university and aspiring candidates will be asked for one of those diplomas if they want to study in France.
Each year, more than 300,000 certifications are awarded worldwide. In India, a very positive growth has been observed in the past 3 years since 2009, with the number of candidates doubling to 16000 in the year 2012.
The DELF and DALF officially certify the ability of students to use the French language in real life situations based on six competency levels - 6 diplomas (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) for each progressive level exist, from basic to advanced which correspond to the 6 steps stated in the Common Europeaan Framework of References for Languages, an international standard used for all European languages such as German, Spanish, Italian, etc. Each exam tests the 4 main language skills : speaking, listening, reading, and writing. There exists a version, DELF Junior, with similar levels adapted to younger candidates with themes which interest them. Teenagers in the 12-16 year age group can apply for this exam. The DELF Junior will soon be introduced in CBSE affiliated schools as a part of their annual course.
In India, the exams are conducted by the Institut Français and the Alliance Française Network four times a year. The exams are open to everyone wishing to acquire an international level certification and each candidate can select and register directly to their exam of choice. Registration for these exams can be done at the Alliance Française centres. The application form has been net-enabled for easy access. The next session will be organized from 23rd to 28th Sept 2013 and the last date for registration is 12th Sept 2013.
