World Day to Combat Desertification (17 June 2014)
To mark the World Day to Combat Desertification, this year devoted to the theme: “Land belongs to the future – let’s climate-proof it”, France recalls the need to promote land-management practices and policies allowing us to respond to the challenge of climate disruption.
The fight against desertification and land degradation is a key challenge for development. To face up to this challenge, over the 2010-2011 period, France devoted €138 million annually to concrete projects, mainly in Africa and the Mediterranean, through funding from the French Development Agency and the French Global Environment Facility.
At the 2015 Paris climate conference, France would like to reach a universal, ambitious agreement on the fight against climate disruption. It is mobilized to make the fight against desertification and land degradation a central strand of international environmental governance. (…)./.
