The Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Mr François Richier, inaugurated a kiosk for the distribution of LED bulbs as a part of the Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP), a flagship initiative of EESL, supported by Ministry of Power, Government of India, and launched by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, on 5th January 2015.

This inauguration took place during a half-day seminar organized by Ministry of Power, along with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL), in association with Managing Committee of India Habitat Centre (IHC).

Under the DELP, EESL has distributed more than 33.5 million energy-efficient LED lamps pan India as of 3rd December 2015, resulting in significant reduction in LED bulb cost and energy consumption. On average, LED bulbs make energy savings of 50% compared to CFL bulbs, and 88% compared to incandescent bulbs.

The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is supporting the efforts of the Government of India and EESL towards energy efficiency initiatives. Having approved a loan of 50 million euros in December 2014 for EESL, AFD is one of the earliest financers of EESL.

This event was organized as negotiations at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change for a global agreement on climate change are underway.
