FranceCol start-up winner of Creative Next India competition

Ambassador of France to India, H.E. Mr Alexandre Ziegler declares FranceCol start-up winner of Creative Next India competition

New Delhi, 14 July 2016

On the occasion of Bastille Day, the Embassy of France and its international business development agency, Business France India, announced the winner of the Creative Next India competition.

French creativity is not only to be found in France but also throughout the world, particularly in India. Hundreds of companies of all sizes and many French entrepreneurs have chosen to set up business and showcase their innovative expertise in India. They form the pool of creativity that the Embassy wished to highlight this year on the occasion of the French National Day on 14th July, by coming up with the Creative Next competition.

A month prior to the date, the CreativeNext campaign was launched across India. The aim of the campaign was to reach out to the thriving French start-up community in partner countries and handpick the most intriguing solutions

H.E. Mr Alexandre Ziegler, Ambassador of France to India, declared the winner of the CreativeNext contest to be FranceCol Technology, a French R&D innovation industrial oriented design team, which produces its own power electronics and electrical motor devices. The young research company has now become the face of the Creative France campaign in India. FranceCol’s embedded wheel motor project enables the electrification any bicycle, motorcycle or wheel chair, without any structural modification.

Addressing the guests assembled for the 14th July reception, Ambassador Ziegler said, “France is a creative and innovative country. It is the world’s fourth most dynamic country for patents. Here in India, more and more of our companies are locating R&D centres, which innovate, create and eventually make in India some of the solutions that will shape tomorrow’s world. In the backdrop of the Creative France campaign, I am proud to award a French company in recognition of its spirit of innovation.”

Dr François Bernot, ‎Scientific Director - FranceCol Technology, observed, “The Indian market is huge, with a true need for cost-effective devices. Our electric bicycle is the fruit of a joint R&D collaboration of Indian and French teams. They have invented a solution that adheres to the principles of “sustainable development’, “frugal innovation”, and is accessible to all and perfectly suitable for transporting a large number of Indians.”

About Créative France campaign

This ambitious global campaign shows what makes France, the world’s sixth largest economy by GDP, a unique destination for FDI. Initiated by the French government and executed by Business France, the agency for international development of the French economy, the Creative France campaign has selected ten priority countries, including India, based on their potential for trade and investment. The Créative France campaign has been launched in India on the occasion of the State visit of French President François Hollande in the country as the Chief Guest for India’s 67th Republic Day.

India and France share a mutual fascination for culture, fashion and art and in the past several decades this relationship has deepened and broadened across a range of industrial fields ranging from aerospace and robotics to high-tech materials. France is the 3rd largest foreign investor in India, with an estimated investment stock of around $20bn, which has contributed to creating around 3 lakhs skilled jobs in the country.
