French participation in Admiral’s Cup Regatta 2014

Admiral RK Dhowan, Chief of the Indian Naval Staff, had invited his French counterpart, Admiral Bernard Rogel, to have two officers from the French Naval Academy participate in the Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta in December 2014.

This yearly race of Laser (Radial) class sailboats took place at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala. The fiftieth edition, which brought together seventeen nations, saw France’s very first participation in the event.

After two days of practice, nine races spread over three days determined the outcome of the competing sailboats. For a maiden participation, the French competitors, Marc-Antoine Renaudeau and Kevin Scourzic, made a good impressive and obtained commendable ranking.

Their exemplary deportment and motivation gave them the opportunity to establish solid ties with other teams, especially the Indian ones. They exchanged views with their counterparts not only on races but also on the training courses of naval officers in their respective countries.

This competition, flawlessly organized by the Indian Navy, also enabled the French participants to tour the state-of-the-art academic and marine facilities that help India train its future naval officers.
