Goût de France / Good France, 2ⁿᵈ service on 21 March 2016!

Following the success of the first event, Laurent Fabius decided to make Goût de France / Good France an annual event. Every 21 March, French gastronomy and the values it promotes will thus be celebrated all around the world.

1500 chefs, 1500 menus, 150 embassies on 5 continents

On the occasion of the launch of 2016’s event, the Minister and Alain Ducasse presented the participating restaurants, in countries all around the world. In the end, more than 1500 restaurants worldwide have been selected for the Goût de France / Good France event of 21 March 2016.

With almost a third of foreign tourists citing gastronomy and wine as some of the main aspects that drew them to visit France, the Goût de France / Good France event highlights the French art de vivre and its local produce, while promoting France as a destination.


Goût de / Good France in India

In addition to the 1500 participating restaurants, our embassies will also be fully involved in organizing the event, and will be holding their own dinners, hosted by the ambassadors.

Once again, this event will be celebrated with remarkable resonance in India: 51 Indian restaurants across the country have been selected participate in the project (up from 47 last year), placing India among the top participating countries. Given the importance attached to gastronomy in India, and thanks to this strong participation of Indian restaurants and their talented chefs, the Goût de / Good France initiative should again be a great success in India.

  • The committee, headed by Chef Alain Ducasse, reviewed proposals submitted by restaurants all over the world, for a menu representative of French gastronomy following Chef Ducasse’s general guidelines.

Goût de / Good France

The project Goût de / Good France is rooted in a long-standing history. In 1912, Auguste Escoffier started Les Dîners d’Épicure (Epicurean Diners): the idea was that for one day, one menu would be served in cities around the world, to as many guests as possible.

In 2015, the first edition of Goût de / Good France, launched by Mr Laurent Fabius under the aegis of Chef Alain Ducasse, took the idea further, inviting many different types of eateries to participate in the global event: bistro, coffee bar, contemporary or haute cuisine restaurants… Spoiled for choice, gourmet diners were able to pick their preferred ambience.

This event marked the first concrete demonstration of French cuisine being listed under the UNESCO “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” category.

This year again, an international communication plan will be made available to participating chefs to promote their dishes and their savoir-faire all over the world.

The event will be publicized through various media by the embassies of France, the French tourism development agency - Atout France, "Goût de / Good France" on social media and the press, and by major partner media (TV and radio, including France Media Monde (RFI, France 24, MCD) andTV5 Monde).

As of now, the participating restaurants are being given pride of place on the official website of tourism in France www.france.fr in 17 languages.

Destination France

“Talking about cuisine, French cuisine, is also talking about joie de vivre, delicacy, optimism, and pleasure. Ideas that are all crucial to the image of France.” — Celebrated Chef Alain Ducasse.

Nearly a third of the tourists who come to France cite wine tasting and gastronomy as being among the main reasons for their choice of destination. Operation Goût de France therefore highlights the French art of living and regional products, while at the same time promoting France as a destination.
