Indo-French Workshop "Chandigarh Smart City"
Chandigarh. 23 September 2016
“Chandigarh Smart City”, an Indo-French workshop, was organised here today at the initiative of the Regional Economic Department of the Embassy of France in India in partnership with the Chandigarh Administration, along with the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IFCCI) and support from the Indian Ministry of Urban Development.
The workshop produced open and fruitful discussions on the progress and upcoming implementation of Chandigarh’s Smart City Plan. The participants were the Chandigarh Administration, the French Development Agency (AFD), and 22 member-companies of the French Smart Cities Club. The Chandigarh Administration welcomed the French companies’ suggestions on the recently formed Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) and quality-based evaluation criteria for future tenders.
On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Chandigarh Administration and the AFD on conducting a pre-feasibility study for a public transport system in Chandigarh. The study will be carried out as part of the technical assistance programme provided by the French Government to Chandigarh city under the Indian Smart Cities Mission.
The day also marked the inauguration of the Office of the IFCCI Permanent Representative in Chandigarh.
