Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, received the Minister of External Affairs of India, Salman Khurshid, on 10 January.
This is the first visit made to France by a Minister of External Affairs of India since 2001. Mr Khurshid will be received by the President of the French Republic on 11 January.
This dialogue forms part of the strategic partnership between our two countries, to which the President of the French Republic and the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, reaffirmed their attachment during their bilateral meeting on the margins of the Los Cabos G20 Summit on 20 June 2012.
Remarkably substantive, the Indo-French strategic partnership encompasses a great number of areas of cooperation: defence, civilian nuclear energy, university cooperation, scientific and space, fight against terrorism, development of economic exchanges and bilateral trade, as well as an ever-increasing number of people-to-people and cultural contacts.
On the occasion of their meeting, Messrs. Fabius and Khurshid proceeded to an overall review of the situation in South Asia, specifically held a discussion on Afghanistan, and raised major international issues, such as Syria, Iran, Libya and the situation in the Sahel.
INTERVIEW(in french) - The chief of Indian diplomacy Salman Khurshid is preparing for the visit of French President François Hollande next month and has reassured the Figaro that the contract for the sale of Rafales will soon be finalised.
India is a strategic partner for France. Our partnership is exceptional for its dynamism, its breadth, its balanced nature. It covers numerous areas. I will particularly mention energy, defence, space, security, the cultural, education, scientific fields. In all these areas, we work together and intend to work more closely together.
