Exploratory mission of the Midi-Pyrénées Region in India


On the occasion of the visit of a 5-member delegation from the Region of Midi-Pyrénées in France led by the Vice President in charge of employment, development and innovation, Mr Claude Gaits, the Consulate General of France in Bangalore facilitated meetings with key government authorities in various sectors including Mr Kaushik Mukherjee, Chief Secretary to Government of Karnataka, and Mr Gaurav Gupta, Commissioner for Industrial Development & Director of Industries and Commerce.

An extensive meeting took place also with Sri Krishna Byre Gowda, Minister of Agriculture for the State of Karnataka, wherein key areas of potential collaboration were discussed as length. While Sri Bye Gowda explained the current strength and challenges of the sector, the French delegation talked about providing technological and academic assistance to overcome difficulties in water resource management in irrigation, food processing, seed quality improvement and developing agro chains.

The French delegation presented the strengths of their region and how they were looking at partnering with the state of Karnataka in the sectors of aeronautics, agriculture, information technology, biotechnology and health. This initial exploratory mission of the Region of Midi-Pyrénées had also the objective of announcing to the potential stakeholders the forthcoming visit of the Presidents of both the French regions of Midi-Pyrénées and Aquitaine, accompanied by 10 to 15 companies, in September 2015.

A follow-up meeting with representatives from Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Council and Karnataka Udyog Mitra took place yesterday with members of the French delegation and officials of the Consulate General of France in order to get a day-to-day programme for the visit to Paris and Toulouse of the Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary and their delegation. The programme covers all areas of interest to both regions for an eventual signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The visit in Bangalore is being followed up with several similar meetings in Chennai and Pondicherry.
