Port call of the French frigate FS Guépratte in Goa, 20-25 January 2015

The French Navy’s multi-mission stealth frigate FS Guépratte made a port call in Goa from 20 to 25 January 2015.

During her stay, Captain Benoît Hédé-Haüy, the commanding officer and his ship’s company held operational exchanges with their Indian Navy counterparts.

On 26th March, the FS Guépratte participated in a daylong exercise at sea with the Indian Navy frigate INS Talwar, which involved practice refuelling at sea as well as boarding exercises, relevant to counter-piracy and counter-smuggling operations. A cross exchange of personnel was held throughout the duration of the exercise.

The port call of the FS Guépratte and the exercises that followed will contribute to strengthening the ever-higher degree of co-operation between the French and Indian Navies, under the aegis of the strategic partnership established between the two countries in 1998.

The FS Guépratte has been deployed in the Indian Ocean since December 2014.

France, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and with over a million of its citizens living in the Indian Ocean rim, contributes to peace and security in this area. It has a permanent tri-service military presence in the region, including in Djibouti, as well as in the French overseas districts of La Reunion and Mayotte Islands.
