Pondicherry, 23 February 2017

In connection with preparing a detailed project report for including Puducherry city on the Smart Cities list, and as part of the special cooperation agreement between Puducherry and France, a French delegation visited the Union Territory. The delegation, comprising 15 French companies of the French Smart Cities Club and French Development Agency (AFD) officials, was received by Hon’ble Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam, and Chief Secretary to the Government. Mr Philippe Janvier-Kamiyama, Consul General of France in Puducherry, and Mr Jean-Marc Fenet, Head of the Regional Economic Service of the Embassy of France in India, also attended the meetings.

Around 100 local administrative staff and corporate executives attended the seminar, during which French expertise in the areas required for qualifying as a Smart City were presented. Further, AFD officials gave an overview of the Agency’s mandate in India and the financing granted for projects of the City of Puducherry.
