Short-stay visa for Overseas France

Information on visas for visiting a French territory that is not included in the Schengen Agreement.


1- Short-stay visa for overseas departments and regions (DROM) and autonomous regions in the Americas (CTOM) (Saint Barthélémy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Important note

The French overseas departments and regions (DROM) refer to the following four overseas departments and regions: Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guyana and Reunion Island, and/or the three overseas autonomous territories (CTOM) in the Americas.

The French Departments of the Americas (DFA) refer to the three DROMs of the Americas: Guadeloupe, Martinique and French Guyana as well as the three CTOMs of the Americas. Visas bearing the “DFA” stamp thus permit their holders to enter the overseas autonomous territories of Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, and Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

-  A visa bearing the stamp “valid for Schengen States” is not valid for entry on DROM territory.

-  A visa bearing the stamp “valid for DROM” is valid either for a single DROM or a DFA; as there is no specific visa for Saint Barthélemy or Saint Martin, DFA visas must be issued for these two CTOMs.

-  A visa bearing the stamp “valid for DROM” is not valid for entering the Schengen Area. l’Espace Schengen.

 Prefectures are competent to issue visas valid for DROMs to foreigners already present elsewhere in France.

List of documents to be submitted for visa application

The documents to be submitted and the conditions governing visa issuance for a DROM are similar to those applicable to the Schengen Area (Please check the list for Short-stay visas).

If you plan to enter both a DROM and the Schengen Space territories, you must submit two separate applications:
-  one for the Schengen Space; and
-  another for the DROM destination.

2- Short-stay visa for overseas countries and autonomous regions (CTOM)

To whom is this applicable?

Visitors wishing to travel to the following overseas countries and autonomous territories (CTOM): New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna, and Mayotte.

List of documents to be submitted for a visa for overseas

countries and autonomous territories (CTOM) is similar to that applicable to the Schengen Area (Please check the list for Short-stay visas)

If you plan to enter both a CTOM and the Schengen Space territories, you must submit two separate applications:

-  one for the Schengen Space; and
-  another for the CTOM destination.

3- Visa for entry and stay on the French Southern and Antarctic Lands territory (TAAF)

If you wish to travel to the territories of Kerguelen Islands, Amsterdam Island, Crozet Islands, Adélie Land, and the Scattered Islands (Bassas da India, Europa, Glorioso Islands, Juan de Nova, and Tromelin Island), situated in the Mozambique Channel and the Indian Ocean, please fax your application to (91-11) 4319-6169.

4- Short-stay visa waiver for Indian tourists visiting the French Island of Reunion

Indian tourists visiting Reunion, whose trip is organized through an approved Indian travel agency, will be provided with a free Visa on Arrival (VoA) at the airport, with a validity of 14 days.
