Strong French presence at Urban Mobility India 2014

For the second time, France registers a strong presence at Urban Mobility India (UMI) 2014, which is being held from 25th to 28th November 2014 in Delhi (Manekshaw Centre).

Organized by the Ministry of Urban Development of India, the seventh edition of this major annual event will gather urban transport professionals and decision-makers from the whole country and welcome leading companies from France to showcase their expertise and state-of-the-art technologies in the field of urban mobility. The French Development Agency (AFD) in India and a delegation from the Urban Community of Bordeaux (France), one of the largest French conurbations, are also participating in the Conference and will speak during different sessions.

1. French presence in Urban Mobility India 2014:

The French Pavilion, organized by UBIFRANCE, will bring together several high-profile companies representing the urban development sector in France that are ready to develop their activities in India with the best practices and technologies in sustainable urban infrastructure: SYSTRA, POMA, VOOSLOH COGIFER, LOGIROAD, PARKEON.

The French Development Agency (AFD) in India, which has provided financing for many urban transport projects throughout India, will also be present at the Conference. It will conduct a technical session, on 27th November, on topics covering different aspects of urban mobility, such as alternative modes of transport to foster comprehensive urban mobility.

Lastly, a delegation from the Urban Community of Bordeaux (CUB), one of the largest and most dynamic French conurbations, will take part in the Conference on 28th November. Its Vice-President in charge of mobility, Mr Michel Labardin, will introduce the final plenary session of the Conference on “Creating Sustainable Cities through Sustainable Transport – Best Practices”. On this occasion, the CUB will introduce the “World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems”, which will be held in Bordeaux from 5th to 9th October 2015.

Furthermore, ahead of the UMI, the CUB also visited Hyderabad, where it organized, on 24th November, a seminar on urban mobility in cooperation with the Government of Telangana and the Cooperation for urban mobility in the developing world (COTADU) association. This seminar launched a one-year cooperation programme on urban mobility between both cities.

2. An opportunity to foster the Indo-French ties in urban development:

“Sustainable Transport for Sustainable Cities” will be the main theme of the 2014 UMI edition. Current issues of national importance concerning urban transport will be discussed through talks presenting the latest developments in this field through case studies. Participants from France (UBIFRANCE, AFD, CUB) will take this opportunity to share their views and exchange innovative ideas with Indian stakeholders, fostering official, institutional and industrial partnerships.

Indeed, improved urban transport strategies can bring a myriad of benefits to India, from reduction in CO2 emissions to a more mobile and inclusive society. Urban mobility is ideally suited to furthering the Indo-French dialogue on these subjects. The French railway industry, with 1500 companies and a combined turnover of €4 billion (25% from exports), is ranked second in Europe. Indian decision-makers and companies actively committed to sustainable architecture, energy efficiency, digital technologies, construction, urban management and mobility, will all have the opportunity to approach potential partners through the French delegation.
